The Founder’s Compliance Calendar: What Should Be Reviewed Every Quarter?

Compliance should not be treated as an annual task completed only before deadlines. A quarterly review helps founders identify gaps early, avoid penalties and maintain readiness for investors, lenders and partners.

The first review should cover statutory and tax filings. Confirm that corporate records, income-tax obligations, GST returns, withholding-tax payments and other filings are complete, accurate and supported by working papers.

Financial controls should also be examined. Review bank reconciliations, receivables, payables, payroll, expense approvals, budgets and cash-flow forecasts. Unusual transactions, overdue collections or unexplained variances should be investigated promptly.

Founders should review contracts, licences, insurance and employment documentation. Confirm that agreements remain valid, renewals are tracked and key obligations are being met. data-protection practices should also be monitored.

Corporate governance requires attention each quarter. Update the cap table, record board and shareholder decisions, review related-party transactions and document delegated authority. Changes in directors, employees, investors or ownership should be reflected in records.

Finally, review risk controls, cybersecurity and regulations. Assign owners and deadlines for actions.

A quarterly compliance calendar creates accountability, improves transparency and allows founders to address issues before they become expensive or disruptive.
